Commodore’s Letter (03-21-21)
(This is a bit late – webmaster apologies)
I hope this letter finds you in good health and spirits. It is currently snowing. This being the second day of spring, we woke up to snow on the ground. See the attached photo. Thank you Wes for letting me keep my boat in Clarkston, where I don’t have to shovel the snow off of it before raising the mast. The Frostbite series has gotten off to a warm and slow start – we haven’t started a race yet. However, four boats showed up for the last weekend of racing. The wind filled slowly after we called the racing for the day and then got very strong. We had a great two hours of sailing before it died again.
The Alex Bell is only 30 days away. You would not think so with today’s snowing all day, but it’s been WARM on the water in just a short while. If you haven’t gotten your boat out yet, you need to think real soon about charging your batteries, cleaning out the cobwebs, stitching those places wearing in your sails and getting your keel wet. Luckily, most of that can be done inside (it’s snowing harder now with big flakes) by the fireplace with a hot drink.
Also an inside activity, I know of a couple of sailors who have been pouring over charts and Google Earth for this June’s San Juan Cruise. Think about it – it’s a great time.
Hope to see you all April 5 for the meeting at Roosters.
Commodore Greg
