New Year’s Day Sail 2012
How could New Year’s Day possible sneak up on me? Anyway, tomorrow at noon we sail from the Hell’s Canyon Marina (west end of Clarkston) to the Blue Bridge and back to ring in the new year. Arrive early to avoid the polar bear crowd.
Follow up -
East wind, partial sun, three bridges, two hours, peaceful albeit lonely.

Boat parade lights up the night
By SANDRA L. LEE of the Tribune
A stiff breeze whipped the long strings of multicolored lights as Tim Lynch of Lewiston hauled them up the 25-foot-tall mast of his San Juan sailboat.
The spirit of Christmas brought him and his daughter, Dylana Lynch, 4, to the Swallows Park boat launch, starting point for the Hells Canyon Boat Club lighted parade on the Snake River, Saturday afternoon, he said. [Read more →]

Sunday Morning Ramblings . . .
Even with Saturday’s snow, I still was a bit sad not to be taking the boat down to the River for some sail boat racing.
Need to start getting the boat ready for the lighted boat parade. Anyone else going? I’ll get an email out that everyone can “reply all” to to let everyone know.
And please, consider how you can help with the Club next year. Elections are coming up . . .

Fall Series Race Day #5 Recap
Who would have guessed that the two best days of sailing would have been the last two weekends of October? We had yet another beautiful day with nice winds out of the northwest. Four boats were out (Mantis, RIO, Coir Jaot and Vindr Knifr) and we got in three race before the clouds rolled in and the rain started.
The wind direction once again favored Randy Blair’s tri-hull with a reach on the “downwind” leg. We even saw the mighty pink spinnaker flying today. Randy needs about an 8 minute lead in a 1 hr race to beat the SJ21′s. It was really close at the end of Race #1 between him and Tim Lynch.
Race #2 was shortened to once around as the winds went light. We had a bit of a break between race #2 and #3 as we waited for it to fill back in. We did a quick tie up at the dock to stretch our legs, watch a freight train go by, and ponder the grey clouds building in the west.
The win
ds did fill back in, with less intensity than feared and we started Race #3. Tim Lynch ran aground during the 2nd upwind leg (that sandbar on the south side of the river is WAY out there), but recovered nicely on the downwind leg to give the Murphy’s a run to the finish. Jeff and Jess once again held close and may have beat the SJ21′s on handicap.
All in all it was a great race series. Can’t wait till the Christmas party to see the overall results.
As always, we appreciate Wes and Robbie’s effort in setting the course, running the races and picking up after. The series would have not have been possible without their donation of time.
